SADDLE EXPERIENCE

15 years, off and on. I initially struggled with comfort due to poor setup and the ring of steps didn’t fit my hunting style. As a result, I found myself coming back to my lone wolf stand and sticks and using the saddle in niche situations. I wanted the saddle to work but the platforms on the market were less than ideal including many years of DIY options.

Better saddles like the Mantis and the use of mini tree stand style platforms has made saddle hunting my preferred hunting method and led to the development of the Predator platform. Unlike conventional tree stands, this system works in any tree and allows for 360 degree shooting. It creates shot opportunities in the tree through unparalleled mobility and the Predator platform keeps movement minimal when whitetails are close. I’m hooked on this style of hunting.

SADDLE SETUP

Mantis Saddle and Predator Platform. I use various climbing methods: Wild Edge Stepps, Spurs, Single Rope Technique (SRT), Aiders, Tree Bolts, and Climbing Sticks. The saddle, platform, and climbing equipment comes in at less than 10 lbs regardless of climbing option.

PLATFORM

Predator Platform. If the tree is really big, sometimes I’ll install a wild edge stepp or strap on step on the opposite side of the platform as an additional pivot point.

BOW OR RIFLE

Both, but bowhunting is my passion.

STEAK, CHICKEN, OR FISH?

Fresh Brook Trout, Venison Tenderloin Medallions, and Asparagus.
